Click on this link for a short, very interesting article by Steve Burchett about why we need to be careful about how we use study Bibles.
I have five study Bibles right now, and may get more in the future. They can be valuable study aids. But I do find that I often spend as much or more time reading the notes as I do reading the scripture text. I’m not sure that’s very healthy.
Plus, large-print study Bibles can be difficult to tote around; you may need a wheelbarrow. Even the regular-size ones can be cumbersome, and the smaller personal-size ones can cause you to go blind!
No, study Bibles have their place, but there’s something to be said for having the text-only Word of God to feast your mind upon.
