Our Twins have now won all six of our first six series this year, but they have swept none of them. Sure, we’d love to see a sweep, or two, or ten, but at this rate, even if they never swept a single series all season long, if they continued to win two out of three, they’d still end the season in the area of 100-110 wins.
The Kansas City Royals, who beat the Twins Sunday afternoon after losing the first two games of the series, are a proud team with a proud history – at least as far as the 70s and 80s are concerned, back when they had great players and championship teams. So it continues to be a sad thing to see them drop into last place in the AL Central Division. They’re trying!
But there’s another thing that’s trying about the Royals – that “Let’s go Royals” cheer is as lame as it gets. It’s bad enough to hear a few of their fans try to do it at their away games, but at their home games it starts when the first pitch is thrown, and by the end of the game I’m ready to throw up. It’s so bland, so unimaginative…I guess it’s much like the team these days. I hope the Royals fans will someday see fit to chuck that cheer where the sun don’t shine – the sooner the better! Maybe the team would play better if they didn’t have to listen to that garbage the whole game.
Finally, a quote to brighten your Monday: White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was asked if his teams offensive struggles this season have caused him to lose sleep. Ozzie’s reply: “I sleep like a baby … I wake up every couple hours and cry.”
